Hi, I'm Ava Holland!
UNC Chapel Hill student class of 2027
My journey with art began at a young age when I was able to attend Brickell Academy for Advanced Academics and Arts. From there, my passion for creativity blossomed, leading me to pursue AP Art courses in high school. Now at UNC, I’m studying art along with pre-dental courses, exploring everything from photography and painting to collage and drawing.
Cary Photographic Artists Julia Daniels Student Photography Competition Winner (2025, 2026)
Two-time Julia Daniels Student Photography Competition winner, showcases an exhibition featuring top undergraduate student photographers from the North Carolina Triangle. Selected works include Currents, Joyful Leap of a Spinner Dolphin, Sun on Stone, and Where Sand Knows My Name.
Giving Back
One of the most meaningful parts of my photography has been using it to give back to others. In collaboration with my Spanish teacher, Señora Knorr, I was able to connect with low-income, Spanish-speaking families in the Chapel Hill community. Through this, we created a family’s first Christmas card, which is a moment that remains especially meaningful to me.
I have also worked through the Carolina Closet initiative to provide complimentary graduation photos for UNC students using the resource for essential clothing items. I believe photography should be accessible to those who might not otherwise have the financial means. Everyone deserves to look back on important milestones and feel proud, confident, and seen in those moments.
To respect the privacy and comfort of these individuals, their sessions and gallery images are not shared on my website or Instagram (@artbyavaholland).
As I go into dentistry, I hope to continue finding unique ways to use my skills to give back. My goal is to inspire others to do the same in their own communities.
